Volunteers

Volunteers for the following positions are needed for each show. For more information on any of the jobs you are interested in please e-mail your request to the Administrative Director: riley@trylight.ca

Actors

We are always looking for new actors to join our theatre community—no experience necessary! For each new production, we begin with a casting call and auditions. No preparation is necessary. Just come and join the fun. Our friendly production staff will do everything they can to make you comfortable, calm your nerves and help you through the process.

Production Manager

Our PM is our ‘behind the scenes’ organizational guru; the big boss, the head cheese. You make sure everything runs tickety-boo, from the Front of House to the Back of House and everything in between! If you are an organized team leader, this position could be your starring role.

Director

Bring out the folding chair and the bullhorn! If you can read a script and visualize the scenes unfolding, the characters interacting, the look of the stage, the costumes and the lighting, you may be a director in the making. The director is the one who has a vision for what will happen onstage, and works with the actors and crew to bring all the creative elements together.

Stage Manager

Ruling from a headset, the manager’s job is to herd actors and make sure lighting and sound cues go off without a hitch. Once the production manager and the director are finished their jobs it’s your turn to take over.

Sound & Light Tech

The spotlight is on you for two weeks prior to performances. You need to attend all rehearsals during this time, consult with the director and stage manager about tech needs, and be on hand early before every performance to do checks on light and sound. Some experience is an asset but we’re willing to train.

Front of House

Long before the curtain rises, you are busy at work recruiting a team of box office staff and greeters to ensure every patron’s experience is five-star. During the production, you get to run around with a headset looking important. You take instructions from the stage manager to make sure every actor is where they should be, patrons have all arrived, and the show can begin.

Back of House

Your job is to recruit a team of ushers and to be on headset during performances and to make sure everything in the theatre is going smoothly. We’re not going to lie to you; it’s not all glamour. You also have to ensure the bathrooms are clean and well stocked.

Costume Manager

We would come apart at the seams without you. Your job is to select costumes, in consultation with the director and stage manager, and arrange for alterations and repairs if needed. After the show, you make sure all the costumes have been cleaned and put back where they belong.

Hair & Makeup Assistants

No experience is necessary, just an interest in helping our hair and makeup experts work their magic, 2 hours prior to every show.

Greeters

Greeters greet patrons and give out programs. You can leave early when the curtain goes up or stay and watch the performance.

Ushers

Ushers help prepare the house, show ticket-holders to their seats and remain until the end of the show in case patrons need assistance.

Box Office Staff

Box Office Staff sign up for 90-minute shifts, two weeks prior to show time, and/or 60 minute shifts during the run of the show if necessary. You also take tickets at the door and check in patrons.

TryLight is run by volunteers. Because of those volunteers we can stage our productions and keep our tickets reasonably priced. For ‘extras,’ however, we do rely on grants and the generosity of donors. If you are able to assist us in any way with these upgrades we would be most grateful and happily issue a tax receipt.

Fundraising Goals

The TryLight Board has identified a number of areas where upgrades to our facility are necessary to more safely, creatively and comfortably stage shows. We are actively applying for grants and looking for funding streams to accomplish the following:

LED Projector – $2000
To allow for more creative options in staging our shows

iMac Mini – $2200
To make live streaming performances more efficient
